The former Scuderia Ferrari boss believes the Italian team made a mistake by hiring Lewis Hamilton. But he believes Hamilton got a great deal!
Binotto returned to Formula 1 this year as CEO of Audi, but somewhere he will always remain a Ferrari fan. He believes Fred Vasseur made a mistake in signing Hamilton, because the focus should be much more on the talent of Charles Leclerc:
"Hamilton did very well to go to Ferrari, I agree with his decision. If I had to make a decision, I wouldn't invite him to the team because I think we should focus on the younger drivers. Leclerc is talented, I think we should achieve great goals with him.
I have been a Ferrari fan since childhood and our shared past cannot be erased. I still have many photos and objects from that period in my apartment. But professional decisions are not always in balance with emotions, you have to be able to separate them. Regardless, I am still happy when Ferrari wins, I have many small friends there, and in such moments I feel that I have also contributed a little to their success," Binotto said.
