Many people are dismissive when the name Fernando Alonso is mentioned. Karun Chandhok, a former F1 driver, is not one of them, and believes that with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso, at 45, could easily become world champion.
Chandhok says the situation is very similar to when Newey joined Red Bull Racing in the midfield. Back then, Formula 1 was facing major regulation changes, and it’s exactly the same now, prompting Chandhok to conclude that, like RB, Aston Martin could also be incredibly strong:
"In 2007 and 2008, they were mainly preparing for their structure and for the big changes in 2009, and although Brawn with the double diffuser surprised them a lot, in the second half of that season they were the best. We all know the rest: from 2010 to 2013 they won all the world championship titles, for four years they dominated the racing circus. I think something similar is happening at Aston Martin now, and if they can do a sufficiently effective job in 2025, then in 2026 they can achieve rapid development under the new regulatory system.
It would be an incredible story if Fernando, at the age of 44-45, won his third world title in a car designed by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it, that's why he's still in the game!" mused the Indian expert.
