Is the Bahrain meeting really a crisis conference?

Czy spotkanie w Bahrajnie to tak naprawdę konferencja kryzysowa?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

It seems that the meeting with the team leaders is not at all what it seems. So, the restoration of the V10 engines is just the icing on the cake, while in the background the emphasis is on extinguishing the fire...

All of this has been suggested by Mark Hughes, a seasoned F1 writer who has outlined exactly what he means. Hughes says the weekend meeting has become urgent because of the rifts between manufacturers that have emerged during the development of the 2026 engine formula, which could send the series into a spiral that could lead to racing becoming frivolous.

Supposedly, one of the five engine manufacturers is in an exceptionally good position (according to Hughes, it is Mercedes), one is in the grey zone, meaning nothing is known about it, the third with its chosen fuel will be uncompetitive, while the other two suppliers are at a very early stage of development. The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that most of the already developed engine components, as well as the fuels used from 2026, have already passed homologation, which freezes the current engine order. And we have not yet mentioned the global economic crisis, which affects everything - including this process. They want to find some solution... Theoretically, solving homologation could be an opportunity, and the balance of energy released by the combustion engine/electric engine could still be adjusted. But will it be a solution, or just the calm before the storm...
