An interesting observation was recently shared by Carlos Sainz's former race engineer. Tom Stallard - who currently works with Oscar Piastri - believes that the Spaniard's work has allowed McLaren to be competitive, and without him they wouldn't be here.
However, according to Stallard, Sainz also gained a lot from that time, which allowed him to later join Scuderia Ferrari:
"We are talking about a brilliant driver who definitely helped make McLaren competitive. Although Renault didn't see him as a real asset, we showed him the potential he had, and we really needed his services. He made a huge contribution to our project, and we certainly wouldn't be here if he wasn't with us at the time. We helped him restore his self-esteem, and today he is considered one of the best drivers.
Now at Ferrari he is exerting the same beneficial influence that he had with us, and he is playing a huge role in the fact that the Reds are fighting for the Constructors' World Championship," came the unexpected but huge praise from his rival.
