There was no surprise, but a surprising double success and world title came at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
George Russell made a perfect start, unlike Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly, who were overtaken by Charles Leclerc in two corners. Max Verstappen also made a good start, but got into traffic, so he could only get close to fourth place. We quickly reached the first pit stop, Fernando Alonso's start on the soft compound was not entirely successful, so he had to change tires already in the fourth lap. In the meantime, Sainz took second position from Leclerc and intended to chase Russell. However, the Briton built up such a large advantage that it was clear that it would be enough for him until the end of the race. Leclerc had difficulties, Verstappen easily overtook him, who of course fought not only for the best position, but also for the world championship title. However, Gasly had nothing to fight for anymore, his Alpine broke down...
By this point the whole pond had gone through pit stops and the fronts had settled down, and it was clear that two pit stops would be the working strategy. Only Mercedes could speak of good tyre management, with everyone else still struggling with grip and getting their tyres into the right range. Ultimately Mercedes won the Las Vegas GP in the order of George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, ahead of the Scuderia Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
But what is perhaps more important is the fact that Max Verstappen, making sporting history, defended his world title and became world champion for the fourth time at the wheel of Red Bull Racing.
