Lewis Hamilton has expressed his concern that most entry-level categories in motorsport have now become almost financially unattainable.
The seven-time world champion is also concerned that children are not going to school because of sports:
"It's crazy expensive, even karting. I don't know exactly how much a season costs in the lowest categories, but I've heard that you have to pay at least three times more than when I started racing. If McLaren hadn't supported me earlier and if I hadn't signed with Mercedes, I would never have been able to build this career. I'm very concerned about how the costs are going up.
And there is a lot of talk about young kart racers not going to school. Parents put everything on one card and the boys are always training, racing. Most of them will not make it to Formula 1, and they really need to have knowledge in civilian life that they can use. This should be regulated, for example, linking the license to academic results. I think that would be a solution, because what is now is not good," Hamilton said.
