Do we still remember the days when McLaren relied on Lando Norris and proudly admitted it? Well, that's history, a new wind has blown since then.
Johnny Herbert is well known for his sharp tongue, but there is no denying that his words always carry serious weight. As in the case of Oscar Piastri now:
"I think his mental toughness, balance, pace and tactics have been excellent this season. Furthermore, his stoicism with which he leads and the acuity with which he communicates and deals with different situations are visible and audible for all to see. We see what it takes to win the championship. Mentally, he is exactly at the same level as Max Verstappen!"
Lando Norris, on the other hand... unfortunately, makes too many mistakes. His recent crash in qualifying in Saudi Arabia is a prime example. Well, of course you can say he was unlucky, but if someone makes a mistake at that pace, it's over. Is he under a lot of pressure? Yes, but every driver is under a lot of pressure, that's Formula 1! Some deal with it better, some worse... The mistakes Norris makes can really damage the team's title hopes in the long run, while Oscar Piastri has shown that he can even surpass Max Verstappen. In every sense. That's why I think it's time to say that Oscar should be the first McLaren driver!"
