Helmut Marko told the truth about why they need Liam Lawson. Well, it's nothing more than a stable second driver whose job will be to lose first...
Well, for those who thought Lawson had landed the job at Red Bull Racing, consider this:
"Despite his little experience in F1, Liam Lawson was mentally the strongest of our juniors. No one can beat Max Verstappen, it's a huge burden to accept. Lawson is able to bear it and his development potential is huge. Comparing him to Yuki Tsunoda, Yuki is definitely a faster driver, but he lacks the aforementioned qualities. He makes unnecessary mistakes and accidents, has difficulty controlling his outbursts of anger and traditionally "slows down" in such moments. With these factors, you start with an even bigger handicap in a team where the current world champion is on the other side of the pit.
"It would all be too much for Tsunoda, he wouldn't be able to emotionally cope with being behind, not being able to win. We expect Lawson to be able to get within three tenths of Verstappen in qualifying and in the races. Our calculations show that this is enough to get the necessary points in the constructors' championship. We expect him to make steady progress in relation to his skills," Marko explained, explaining where Liam Lawson fits into the Red Bull team.
