Helmut Marko and his team made another typical, perfectly fitting Red Bull Racing pattern, stupid move this week by throwing out Liam Lawson after just two races. And it’s not just the driver in question who’s unhappy about it.
But also the team icon, Max Verstappen. Verstappen has already given plenty of signs that he is not happy with his situation at RBR, maybe this will be another push in a different direction for him...
"We are aware that Max is not happy now. But he also has to understand that we need two cars, and not only for the constructors' championship. It's more about helping him win another world title. Strategically we need both of our cars at the front, we hope that Yuki Tsunoda will live up to the expectations placed on him. Yuki is coming in good shape, and if he can repeat that here, it will also be good for Max. We didn't pick him before because he wasn't stable enough. But Lawson cracked under the pressure, he went into a negative spiral and he couldn't get out of it. He was in a boxer situation that was counted on. We made a mistake not to notice this weakness of his earlier," said Marko, who probably added new wings to the Verstappen/Aston Martin "rumours".
