If there was no Michael Schumacher, probably no one in the world would be able to put Kerpen on the map. But Schumacher is, was and hopefully will be again - this should only be understood by the city management, which does not want to give him the title of honorary citizen.
The issue is not new, both the industry and fans have long been trying to exert pressure in various ways to win this recognition for the seven-time world champion. In vain... Local authorities have once again taken a stance in a way that could not be more disgusting:
"There is no honorary decoration in Kerpen. The introduction of an honorary decoration and the associated titles of honorary citizen are entirely at the discretion of the city council," said Mayor Dieter Spürck on the matter.
"On March 19, 2024, the city unanimously decided to postpone the issue of granting the title of honorary citizen to Michael Schumacher. The factions and representatives from outside the factions must first vote in a factional vote on whether to introduce such a title. Since then, no request has been received on this matter," explained the "first" man of Kerpen, whose colleagues added that "it makes no sense at the moment" and "where does honorary citizenship begin and where does it end" with disgust...

We don't have to comment on this, you know our opinion anyway.
