George Russell always thought that on the other side of the Mercedes box was the best driver in the world, against whom, if he could prove himself, he could one day become world champion.
Now Russell is here and he wants to fulfill that promise on his own. He has been consistently beating Lewis Hamilton for two seasons now in his team, so in theory all he needs now is some competitive technology to fulfill his mission:
"I am fully aware of the role that has been assigned to me as the more experienced driver of the team. In 2025, many great young drivers will come to Formula 1, and then there comes a moment when - although you are not old yet - you are not young anymore. My career has entered a new chapter, after the end of the first stage, I am entering the next one. When Lewis Hamilton started winning world championship titles without a break, he was already older than me, and now it is up to me to follow in his footsteps. I feel that I am going in the right direction, I am ready to fulfill the role that has been assigned to me. The most important thing is to be the fastest, and I feel that I am," said George Russell, speaking somewhat cryptically about his goals.
