There was some discussion between the older and younger Carlos Sainz about which option would be best for Carlos Sainz JR. Ultimately, the younger Sainz decided to trust himself, a decision he says he doesn’t regret.
What's more, even Alpine would give him a chance, but he seems to have chosen the weakest option of all:
"My dream was to join Red Bull or possibly Mercedes, but I didn't manage to do that. After that I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams. After visiting the teams, the factories and talking to everyone, I immediately had the feeling that I should go to Williams because they want to achieve a more beautiful future. When not only my head but also my heart told me so, I knew that this would be my path. I know that my dad felt very good with Audi in the Dakar Rally, he has a very good relationship with them, he wanted me to join them, but I hope he will forgive me for not choosing them. I would also like to prove to him that I made the right decision! When I first got into their car last year, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation and wanted to get back to the front of the field. Apart from that, the car was handling well, our tests this year were great and the development is working. I don't know how much this will be enough for, how far we will be from the front, but I believe that as a team we will keep improving and eventually the time will come when we will be competitive." - said Carlos Sainz hopefully.
