It's been a long time since the announcement of Carlos Sainz's dismissal, with the occasional outcry that the Spaniard was dropped from the Scuderia Ferrari team in what was arguably his best season yet.
Many believe it was the team's fault, but now Carlos Sainz's father has said that Lewis Hamilton is more to blame for the events that took place than the red team:
"Ferrari was very happy with Carlos, but he couldn't stay because Hamilton applied to the team. He contacted Ferrari, not the other way around. That's why this story happened, but there's no point in regretting it anymore. What hurts me, though, is the fact that Carlos doesn't get the respect and recognition he deserves for his skills. He showed his best season, we can see his current best self, and he will only continue to develop. He's a driver who is getting better and better every year, but he's going to have a difficult time at Williams. The team was second to last in the constructors' championship, but he's very motivated. During the season, it was hard for him to digest his situation, the fact that Mercedes and Red Bull Racing didn't choose him either, but you'll see what he's made of..." - said the older Sainz with disappointed pride.
