Somewhat surprisingly, Scuderia Ferrari dominated the US Grand Prix, with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, who had previously been favourites, having to fight only for third place.
Charles Leclerc perfectly sensed the "small gap" offered by Lando Norris and Max Verstappen at the start, and starting from fourth place, he immediately took the lead. His compatriot, Lewis Hamilton, also made a phenomenal start, moving up from the last row to 12th (!!) in a few corners, but just as quickly as he was fast, his fate caught up with him... The Briton hit the gravel in the same place where George Russell had a problem yesterday in qualifying, which meant he was out of the race. The safety car came out, and after it came out, the situation on the track did not change: Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz were still in the leading position. Behind them in order were the two McLarens, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Then there was a spin for Guanyu Zhou and some struggles at the back of the field, but even then, unfortunately, one could have suspected that we would not go down as the 2024 US Grand Prix of the decade.
After the pit stops the front runners changed a bit, with Scuderia Ferrari dominating the race with their two cars, with Verstappen fighting on the hard tyres behind them. We saw different strategies, different tactics, but unfortunately far fewer moments reminiscent of motor racing. We expected Norris, who was closing the field quickly, to make something of himself in the Austin desert, as did Liam Lawson, who made a great comeback to racing. The intensity of the race was well indicated by the fact that the broadcast showed nothing but Norris chasing Verstappen for ten laps, for the simple reason that nothing else was happening.
In the end, Norris managed to swap places, but did so against the rules, so Charles Leclerc, who won the US Grand Prix, and second Carlos Sainz, ultimately Max Verstappen finished third.
